Lassen National Park and Mount Shasta 2003
Lassen National Park and the Mount Shasta areas are nesteld in the northern part of the state just north (Shasta) and east (Lassen) of Redding California. This is a volcanic region that forms the southern part of the Cascade range with famous northern cousins like Mt. St. Helens. Lassen Peak last rumbled in 1921 while Mt. Shasta has not erupted in historical times. There was a report from sea in 1786 about a volcanic eruption that is thought to have been Shasta.
