The Coast of Big Sur
The area was originally known by the Spanish as El Sur Grande. Big Sur runs from south of Carmel to just north of San Simeon and comprises about 90 miles of coastline. It is a coastal wilderness dotted with heavily wooded areas and wind swept scrub land. The landscapes here are world famous.
The seas off of Big Sur are some of the greatest technical diving around. Big Sur Platform, several miles west of Point Sur, is a region dotted with pinnacles from 120 - 200+ feet.
